Tokyo Ghoul - Synopsis

The suspense horror/dark fantasy story is set in Tokyo. The world is inhabited by mysterious creatures referred to as "ghouls" who devour humans. Although they eat humans, they disguise themselves as humans. People are grasped by the fear of these ghouls whose identities are cloaked in mystery. A mediocre university student named Kaneki meets Rize, a girl who is an enthusiastic reader, just like him. He meets her frequently at the cafe he often goes to. Little does he realize that his fate is destined to change, even if he wishes it would never have happened.

None of this matters to Ken Kaneki, a total bookworm, and is an incredibly shy person. He just so happens to be a college student attending school in Tokyo, the melting pot of danger, and full of mysteries. One day, a superpowered creature who feeds on human flesh, a ghoul ambushes Kaneki. Luckily, he survived but is changed, forever. After that encounter, he is turned into the worlds first artificially made half ghoul and becomes a fugitive on the run.

The anime was initially based on a manga created by the author Sui Ishida. It was then adapted into an anime series. The story, Tokyo Ghoul, follows the main character, Ken who is instantly drawn to Rize Kamishiro, an avid reader such as himself, as if it was magic. However, things don't always appear as they seem. Because a series of unfortunate events, Kaneki is pushed into the dark abyss beyond human control, exceeding the ghouls' cruel world. His luck peaks through when the enigmatic waitress named Touka Kirishima rescues Kaneki, and some other ghouls who run a cafe (where Kaneki met Rize) otherwise known as Anteiku. His new journey begins now. He is living a secret, new life as half-ghoul, half-human. Whose destinies are now intertwined with those of the ghouls?
